Discipline

   Expectations
   Expulsion Procedures

We, at STCS, are aware of the dignity and uniqueness of each person as a child of God.  We conscientiously strive to convey this by taking time to acknowledge, support, praise, listen, guide, and correct in a spirit of love and concern.

Discipline in the Catholic school is an essential component of Christian development.  An environment of well-defined expectations is conducive to healthy growth and development.

  1. It provides a safe and harmonious learning environment.

  2. It provides a classroom environment conducive to learning.

  3. It provides student awareness of the importance of developing responsibility and self-control.

  4. It provides a respect in oneself and others.

  5. It builds a sense of community.

Bulling will not be tolerated, unacceptable behaviors are those that interfere with the respect, responsibility and safety of students.

  • denial of privileges

  • probation

  • suspension

  • professional counseling

No Progress - Continued disruption

    • Continued disrespect for authority

    • Destructive behavior

    • Repeated acts of cheating

    • Damage to, or theft of, school or private property

Students may be suspended or expelled without the benefit of the above-outlined procedures for certain offenses
that have an immediate and severe impact on the school, staff, or other students.  The kind(s) of behavior(s) that constitutes reason(s) for suspension or expulsion may include, but are not limited to:

  • Physical abuse of another person

  • Possession or use of controlled or illegal substances such as alcohol, tobacco, drugs, etc.

  • Possession of any device which may be used as a weapon

  • Threats to do serious physical harm to another

Expectations

Students of Catholic schools are expected to be models of Christian behavior.  Repeated conduct unbecoming of a Christian student, whether inside or outside of school, may be reason for dismissal from school.

PLEASE NOTE:

Each student will be held responsible for his/her behavior.  It is the position of the school that good behavior will be positively reinforced; however inappropriate behavior will have consequences commensurate with the behavior.  It must be understood that discipline includes matters where there are no written rules concerning behavior.  Every person is responsible for his/her behavior and must be held accountable for his/her behavior.

Recommended Transfer is a determination by the principal in consultation with the board president that continued attendance will not benefit the student or will make demands upon the school which cannot be met.  The transfer ends enrollment but does not leave the stigma of expulsion.  The school may recommend a transfer based on behavior, academics, or student needs that cannot be adequately met by the school.

It is expected that parents will at all times reflect a Christian attitude.  Actions of parents/legal guardians, or other persons who are abusive and/or disrespectful toward school personnel are grounds for the school to ask for a transfer of the related pupil.

When a student is unable to profit from our school for whatever reason, the parent/guardian will be urged to transfer the student to another school or agency that has facilities to assist the student.

CONDUCT AT ASSEMBLIES/PERFORMANCES

One of the many goals of any school program or concert is to teach appropriate etiquette to our students.  Guidelines to keep in mind include the following:

  1. Members of the audience are requested not to call out to the performers

  2. Members of the audience are requested to be quiet when performers are on the stage.

  3. All members of the audience are requested to remain seated.  Small children are to remain seated with their parent.

  4. Members of the audience are expected to remain for the entire performance.

  5. Smoking is not permitted.

  6. Electronic devices such as pages and cell phones are to be switched to silent mode.

Expulsion Procedures

The final decision to expel a student rests with the principal who will share his/her decision with the Board of Directors.

Every effort will be made to work with the student to resolve problems to include but not limited to the following instructions.

  1. A conference with the student, parents, principal, teacher, and the board president to discuss the situation in its entirety before final action is decided upon;
